摘要： Differences in how Republicans and Democrats responded to COVID-19 resulted in differences in the functioning of housing markets. Democrats adjusted behavior more than Republicans in response to the pandemic. Democrats engaged in more social distancing, were less likely to have people into their homes, and were less willing to visit strangers’ homes. This resulted in supply effects that caused higher housing prices, fewer listings, and fewer days on the market for counties with lower support for former president Donald Trump in the 2020 election. We find no impact of state-imposed shutdowns or population density when political partisanship is accounted for.

摘要： To evaluate the quality of life in the post maxillectomy patients due to Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) associated Mucormycosis (CAM) following rehabilitation with obturators. The study also described the management and treatment outcomes of CAM patients. The study included 80 confirmed patients of CAM. The demographic profile, clinical presentations, predisposing and risk factors, and treatment outcomes were studied. Surgical and medical outcomes were expressed as percentages. After surgical debridement, 27 out of 80 patients were rehabilitated with obturators. The quality of life (QOL) of post debridement at 1 month (T1) vs. post 3 months (T2) of obturator use was measured using the oral health impact profile 14 (OHIP-14) scale. Maxillary sinus was involved in 98.75%, Ethmoid sinus in 51.25% and Sphenoid sinus in 26.25%. Surgical management involved Infrastructure maxillectomy in 56.25%, subtotal maxillectomy in 23.75%, and total maxillectomy with zygoma debridement in 20% of cases. Maxillary sinus debridement was done in 100%, Ethmoid sinus in 51.25%, and Sphenoid sinus in 26.25%. Medical management involved administration of intravenous Amphotericin B (total 3–5 g), and Posaconazole 300 mg OD for 3 months. The measured QOL using mean scores of each domain and the total score of OHIP-14 were lower at T2 (25.5 ± 6.809) compared to T1 (49.55 ± 9.822), (indicating better treatment outcomes) and were found to be statistically significant (P < 0.001). Early diagnosis, controlling risk factors, combined aggressive surgical and medical management reduces the morbidity and mortality of the patients. Early rehabilitation of the maxillectomy defects in CAM patients with temporary obturators mitigates deficient mastication and speech, thereby leading to improved function, aesthetics, and social well-being, and improving the overall QOL of these patients.

摘要： Background In 2-4% of patients, COVID19 chemosensory dysfunction (CSD) persists beyond six months, accounting for up to 4 million people in the US. The predictors of persistence and recovery require further exploration. Objective To define the predictors of recovery and assess the quality of CSD in registry subjects with self-reported persistent smell and taste dysfunction after COVID19. Methods COVID19 CSD participants (n=408) from the four major waves of the pandemic completed questionnaires at four time points between 2021 and 2023, assessing demographics, sinonasal symptoms and self-assessed recovery. Objective measurements of smell (UPSIT) and taste (BWETT) were performed on a sub-cohort (n=108). Results In this chronic CSD cohort, the average symptom duration was 24±5 months but 70% those who contracted COVID19 in 2020 have ongoing dysfunction. Phantosmia and dysgeusia were most prevalent in the early waves of COVID19, while most participants reported disrupted ability to distinguish scents and flavors and undulating chemosensory function. Subjects reported low incidence of subjective sinonasal symptoms but high prevalence of sleep and mood disturbance. Cigarette phantom smells were predictive of persistence of CSD. Conversely, self-reported environmental allergies were predictive of recovery and dust mite allergies, specifically, were negative predictors of cigarette phantom smells. Finally, no treatment resolved CSD, but nasal steroids were reported effective by recovered CSD subjects. Objective measures of both smell and taste were significantly reduced in chronic CSD compared to controls. Conclusions Chronic COVID19 CSD is a syndrome resistant to standard anti-inflammatory therapy. Pre-existing environmental allergies and hypertension predict recovery, while cigarette smoke phantosmia predicts persistence.

摘要： In pandemic mitigation, strategies such as social distancing and mask-wearing are vital to prevent disease resurgence. Yet, monitoring adherence is challenging, as individuals might be reluctant to share behavioral data with public health authorities. To address this challenge and demonstrate a framework for conducting observational research with sensitive data in a privacy-conscious manner, we employ a privacy-centric epidemiological study design: the federated cohort. This approach leverages recent computational advances to allow for distributed participants to contribute to a prospective, observational research study while maintaining full control of their data. We apply this strategy here to explore pandemic intervention adherence patterns. Participants (n= 3808) were enrolled in our federated cohort via the “Google Health Studies” mobile application. Participants completed weekly surveys and contributed empirically measured mobility data from their Android devices between November 2020 to August 2021. Using federated analytics, differential privacy, and secure aggregation, we analyzed data in five 6-week periods, encompassing the pre- and post-vaccination phases. Our results showed that participants largely utilized non-pharmaceutical intervention strategies until they were fully vaccinated against COVID-19, except for individuals without plans to become vaccinated. Furthermore, this project offers a blueprint for conducting a federated cohort study and engaging in privacy-preserving research during a public health emergency.

摘要： Retinal vein occlusions and central retinal artery occlusions have been reported with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines. We aim to provide a descriptive analysis of cases reported in France until mid-2023, and recorded in the French pharmacovigilance database. An independent ophthalmologist reviewed all cases. We analyzed 290 cases (228 retinal vein occlusions, 58 central retinal artery occlusions, and four combinations). Retinal vein occlusions occurred with mRNA vaccines (68.0%) and adenovirus-vectored vaccines (32%), with an 11-day median onset delay. Almost half of the patients had retinal vein occlusion risk factors, mainly hypertension, and five had a positive rechallenge. Considering the lower adenovirus-vectored vaccines exposure in France, their proportion of retinal vein occlusions appears high. Among the 58 central retinal artery occlusion cases, most occurred with mRNA vaccines in patients with retinal artery occlusion risk factors (mainly hypertension), with a 17-day median onset delay. In conclusion, there was a temporal association in almost half of cases, but few cases with positive rechallenge, and many cases were confounded by risk factors (e.g., cardiovascular disorders, diabetes), which are also COVID-19 risk factors. Therefore, the risk of retinal vascular occlusion does not challenge the benefit-risk ratio of the vaccination, especially for mRNA vaccines.

摘要： Objective The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on medical care. This study evaluated the influence of the pandemic on blood pressure (BP) control and hypertension phenotypes as assessed by office and 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM). Design and Methods Data were collected from 33 centers including Excellence Centers of the European Society of Hypertension. Two groups of patients with treated hypertension were compared. Pandemic group: including participants who had ABPM twice - at visit 2 during the COVID-19 pandemic and visit 1 performed 9–15 months prior to visit 2. Pre-pandemic group: had ABPM at two visits, performed before the pandemic within 9–15 months interval. We determined the following hypertension phenotypes: masked hypertension, white coat hypertension, sustained controlled hypertension (SCH) and sustained uncontrolled hypertension (SUCH). We analyzed the prevalence of phenotypes and their changes between visits. Results Data of 1419 patients, 616 (43 %) in the pandemic group and 803 (57 %) in the pre-pandemic group, were analyzed. At baseline (visit 1), the prevalence of hypertension phenotypes did not differ between groups. In the pandemic group, the change in hypertension phenotypes between two visits was not significant ( p = 0.08). In contrast, in the pre-pandemic group, the prevalence of SCH increased during follow-up (28.8 % vs 38.4 %, p < 0.01) while the prevalence of SUCH decreased (34.2 % vs 27.8 %, p < 0.01). In multivariable adjusted analysis, the only factor influencing negative changes of hypertension phenotypes was the COVID-19 pandemic period. Conclusion These results indicate a negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on BP control assessed by hypertension phenotypes.

摘要： COVID-19 brought tremendous disruption to daily life, accelerated urban digital transformation, and prompted sustainable improvement in socio-spatial development. The emergence of analytic technologies stimulates possibilities for integrating socio-spatial relationships, and new urban research methods and assessment systems are required, which are rarely discussed in recent studies. To bridge the research gap, this study proposes a measurement framework that combines Location Based Social Networking Services (LBSNs) and POI data to test the effectiveness of urban regeneration projects. Specifically, the study quantifies urban vitality to evaluate people’s preferences and place settings integrating by objectively utilizing LBSNs with social media (Weibo check-in and Dianping data) and POI data. This study focuses on 153 regeneration projects in Suzhou, China, from 2019 to 2021 and categorizes urban regeneration projects into four types: (1) community, (2) commercial, (3) public space, and (4) industry. Further, a binary logistic regression model was conducted to analyze the effects of different regeneration measures on urban spatial vitality. The research findings show that combining LBSNs data with POI data can effectively assess the transformation in urban vitality with spatiotemporal analysis. The results indicate that commercial and community regeneration projects significantly impacted urban vitality, and cultural-related renovation measures are critical in improving urban vitality. The systematic urban regeneration measurement framework could promote the regeneration efficiency and rationalization of decision-making, providing a basis for understanding complex socio-spatial relationships and ensuring sustainable urban developmeng sustainable urban development significantly.

摘要： In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, data projections indicated an increase in cancer mortality for the following years due to the overload of health services and the replacement of health priorities. The first studies published with data from mortality records have not confirmed these projections. However, cancer mortality is not an outcome that occurs immediately, and analyses with more extended follow-up periods are necessary. This study aims to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mortality from all types and the five most common types of cancer in Brazil and investigate the relationship between the density of hospital beds and mortality from COVID-19 in cancer patients in Brazil’s Intermediate Geographic Regions (RGIs). The Brazilian Mortality Information System provided data on the deaths from trachea, bronchus, and lung, colorectal, stomach, female breast, and prostate cancer and all types of cancer, and from COVID-19 in individuals who had cancer as a contributing cause of death. Predicted rates for 2020–2022 were compared with the observed ones, through a rate ratio (RR). An association analysis, through multivariate linear regression, was carried out between mortality from COVID-19 in cancer patients, the rate of hospital beds per 100,000 inhabitants, and the Human Development Index of the 133 RGIs of Brazil. In 2020, 2021, and 2022, mortality from all cancers in Brazil was lower than expected, with an RR of 0.95, 0.94, and 0.95, respectively, between the observed and predicted rates. Stomach cancer showed the largest difference between observed and expected rates: RR = 0.89 in 2020 and 2021; RR = 0.88 in 2022. Mortality from COVID-19 in cancer patients, which reached its peak in 2021 (6.0/100,000), was negatively associated with the density of hospital beds in the public health system.
