摘要： This study explored the influence of COVID-19 stigma on the city image of Wuhan by adopting the associative group analysis method. The collected data were free associations of the word “Wuhan” from 39 non-Chinese participants residing outside of China. It found that there were 12 meaning categories related to the city image of Wuhan, half of which were related to COVID-19, and the other half were related to Wuhan city. 56.45% of the associated words were related to COVID-19 and 43.55% to Wuhan city. The results demonstrated that the city image of Wuhan was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, mediated by personal experience and perceived media reports. The associated words have constructed a “Wuhan-COVID-19” stereotype, including “Wuhan-birthplace of COVID” and “Wuhan-eating wild animals”. This reflected that the city image of Wuhan endured stigma in the global community. The study provided implications for eliminating stigma and reconstructing group relationships in the global community.

摘要： A surgical site infection (SSI) is a postoperative infection that occurs at or near the surgical incision. SSIs significantly increase morbidity, mortality, length of hospital stay, and healthcare costs. The World Health Organization (WHO) has established hospital hygiene precaution guidelines for the prevention of SSIs, which were enhanced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The current study aims to explore the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on SSI incidence among initially uninfected postoperative patients. We hypothesize that these enhanced precautions would reduce the incidence of SSIs. A retrospective study comparing surgical outcomes before and during the pandemic. Patients who had abdominal surgery between June and December 2019 (Non-COVID-19) or between February and June 2020 (COVID-19) were included. The two groups were matched in a 1:1 ratio based on age, Sex, acuity (elective or emergent), surgical approach, and comorbidities. Electronic medical records were reviewed to identify SSIs and hospital readmissions within 30 days after surgery. Pearson's chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used. Data was collected and analyzed from 976 patients who had surgery before the COVID-19 pandemic (non-COVID group) and 377 patients who had surgery during the pandemic (COVID group). After matching, there were 377 patients in each group. In our study, we found 23 surgical site infections (SSIs) in both laparoscopic and open surgeries. The incidence of SSIs was significantly higher in the non-COVID period compared to the COVID period [17 cases (4.5%) vs. 6 cases (1.6%), respectively, p = 0.032], especially in non-COVID open surgeries. The incidence of SSIs in laparoscopic surgeries was also higher during the non-COVID period, but not statistically significant. Enhanced hygiene precautions during the COVID -19 pandemic may have reduced SSIs rates following abdominal surgery.

摘要： A subset of early childhood home visitation programs support fragile infants and prevent hospital readmission as infants transition out of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) into their home. However, the COVID-19 pandemic initiated an unexpected change in the delivery of home visitation care to adhere to social distancing guidelines, resulting in a rapid transition into telehealth services. In this study, individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with staff from a NICU-transition home visitation program in Arizona. The Modified Technology Acceptance Model (MTAM) was used to evaluate the experiences of in-person to telehealth home visitations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rapid Qualitative Analysis Method was utilized to generate a thematic analysis. Three major themes were identified: staff-centric, family-centric, and the experience of collective adjustment to the stressors of the pandemic. Participants faced challenges transitioning to telehealth visits, including not being able to physically demonstrate development skills on the infant. However, the telehealth model allowed staff to serve a larger geographic area, as well as allowing them to build a larger caseload as they had more control over their schedule. Staff also noted that families appreciated telehealth home visits as an added layer of health protection for their fragile infants. Because the transition to telehealth was abruptly necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the study participants did not have the option to not use telehealth; thus, in the future, the MTAM framework could benefit from adaptions that address the rapid adoption of technology due to large disruptors such as COVID-19.

摘要： Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for major health complications globally as well as in Bangladesh. The current study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of risk factors for NCD among students and faculty/staff of the University of Dhaka after the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study (June 2022-July 2023) was conducted collecting information of sociodemographic factors, sleeping and food habits, family history, smoking, usage of electronic devices, refractive errors, and physical measurements, all of which were linked to risk factors. Subsequent analyses, such as bivariate, univariate, and logistic regression, were conducted on the population to evaluate associations between NCD status and the respective risk factors. The overall mean age, blood sugar, body mass index (BMI), and systolic and diastolic blood pressure were 22.34 years, 5.88 mmol/L, 23.27 kg/m2, 118.47 mm Hg, and 75.69 mm Hg, respectively. The most significant NCD risk factors were obesity (50.37%), followed by high sugar level (hyperglycemic) (13.45%), and hypertension (11.98%). This study showed a significant number of NCD risk factors among University of Dhaka students and staff following COVID-19, underlining the urgent need for focused health interventions, particularly those addressing food and sleep. Addressing these hazards is critical to avoiding growing NCD incidence to ensure an effective healthcare system in Bangladesh.

摘要： Background Despite the proven therapeutic potential of bivalent vaccine primer doses against COVID-19, acceptance of vaccine booster doses (VBD) varies among various subgroups of the global population. This study investigated the acceptance of COVID-19 VBD among trainees and students of health professions in Bangladesh and compared the potential factors influencing their VBD decisions. Methods The questionnaire was deployed in an online-enabled layout and conveniently sent to encounters between 10 th June 2023 and 10 th September 2023. Data from 501 trainees and 501 students were compared (response rate 80.8% vs.78.3%) to explore the study objectives. Results The pooled COVID-19 VBD acceptance rates were 90.2% (95% Confidence Interval [CI]:87.6─92.8) vs. 93.2% (95% [CI]: 91.2─95.2) between trainees and students. The binary logistic analysis revealed that out of twelve factors “equal safety” (Adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 4.476 vs. 6.459), “efficacy” ([aOR]:3.673 vs. 2.913), “repeated immunity” ([aOR]: 1.729 vs. 2.247), and “self-priority” ([aOR]:3.108 vs. 4.645) had a significant positive association (p <0.01 and p <0.05 ) with VBD acceptance in both groups. There were varied effects on several predictors. Among trainee professionals, "communication" and "booster mandate" were associated significantly ([aOR]:1.534 and 1.748, respectively; p <0.05 ) with VBD acceptance, whereas "information source" and "culture" were associated ([aOR]:3.692 and 3.151, respectively; p <0.05 ) significantly with VBD acceptance in the student cohort. Conclusions There was a satisfactory acceptance level of COVID-19 VBD among healthcare participants, and several multidimensional factors influenced their VBD decisions in different ways. For enhancing public booster immunization decisions against COVID-19, individual health expectations must be linked to wider societal influences.

摘要： This study aims to explore the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on heterosexual older couples’ sexual intimacy and in relation to their mental health. A content analysis of the ideas and insights shared by 391 older persons (between 65 and 87 years of age) from three different countries was most instructive. The most frequent themes were less sexual satisfaction (68%) and less sexual desire (67%). In terms of mental health, the most frequent themes included less anxiety and distress (78%) and greater attention to negative emotional states (55%) Cultural differences emerged, with Brazilian and Portuguese participants more frequently reporting negative themes compared to British participants, who emphasized stronger emotional bonds. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, ongoing research and interventions should prioritize understanding and addressing the implications of reduced physical contact and heightened emotional stress on sexual intimacy.

摘要： COVID-19 is a worldwide epidemic that seriously affected the lives of people. Since its inception, physicians have tried their best to trace the virus and reduce its spread. Several diagnostic approaches have been reported to detect the coronavirus in research, clinical, and public health laboratories. Although the existing systems aid medical experts in the diagnosis, they still lack precise detection and may fail to detect COVID-19 in a timely manner. Therefore, in this study, we recommend two approaches i.e., the first approach is based on the VGGish network that focuses on vocal signals, such as breathing and coughing, and the second approach is based on ResNet50, which takes chest X-rays as input. With the help of VGGish, the patient’s cough, voice, and respiration audios have been classified as patient and non-patient achieving an accuracy of more than 98%. We also assessed the performance of several methods for X-ray classification, such as ResNet50, VGG16, VGG19, Densnet201, Inceptionv3, Darknet, GoogleNet, squeezeNet, and Alex-Net. TheResNet50 outpaced all supplementary CNN models with a precision of 94%. However, when we took both types of inputs simultaneously, the accuracy for detection was increased to 99.7%. After extensive experimentation, we believe that our proposed hybrid method is robust enough to take X-rays and audio as mel-spectrograms and identify COVID-19 at early stages, attaining an accuracy of 99.7%.

摘要： Japan will be transitioning from the free-of-charge COVID-19 vaccination program to annual periodic vaccination under a national immunization program for old adults and high-risk patients from 2024 fall/winter season. The policy transition including out-of-pocket payment requirement may discourage vaccination, leading to a lower vaccination rate. This study aimed to estimate the impact of varying vaccination rates with BNT162b2 COVID-19 mRNA vaccine on economics and public health in an illustrative prefecture which administers and promotes the periodic vaccination program, using budget impact analysis. A combined cohort Markov decision tree model estimated the public health outcomes of COVID-19-related symptomatic cases, hospitalizations and deaths; and the economic outcomes including vaccine-related cost, non-vaccine-related medical cost, and productivity loss from the societal perspective. The base case examined the impact on the outcomes when vaccination coverage changed from the reference value of 50% to upper and lower values, respectively. Scenario analyses were performed based on multiple scenarios. Increase in the vaccination rate demonstrated improvement in all public health outcomes. At 50% vaccination, the vaccine-related cost for 3 years in a prefecture was estimated at JPY 7.58 billion (USD 57.67 million), the non-vaccine-related medical cost at JPY 79.22 billion (USD 602.48 million), the productivity loss at JPY 253.11 billion (USD 1.92 billion), and the total cost at JPY 339.92 billion (USD 2.59 billion). When the vaccination rate increased to 90%, the total cost decreased by JPY 4.88 billion (USD 37.11 million) (1.4%). When the vaccination rate decreased to 10%, the total cost increased by JPY 5.73 billion (USD 43.58 million) (1.7%). Results were consistent across almost all scenario analyses. 摘要： Limited evidence exists regarding the link between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and pneumothorax. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the occurrence rate of pneumothorax in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 and compare the risk of pneumothorax between patients with COVID-19 and influenza. This retrospective cohort study used patient data from the National Health Insurance Service of South Korea. Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 (December 2019 to December 2021) and influenza (January 2019 to December 2021) who required hospitalization and respiratory support were included. We identified 46,460 patients with COVID-19 and 6,117 with influenza. The occurrence rate of pneumothorax was 0.74% in patients with COVID-19. In an inverse probability of treatment weighting matched cohort, the Cox proportional hazards regression model showed that COVID-19 was not associated with an increased risk of pneumothorax compared to influenza (hazard ratio, 1.22; 95% confidence interval, 0.75–1.99). However, the risk of pneumothorax associated with COVID-19 compared to influenza was significantly higher in patients without chronic lung disease than in those with (Pfor heterogeneity = 0.037). In conclusion, COVID-19, compared with influenza, is not associated with an increased risk of pneumothorax; however, it is associated with an increased risk in patients without chronic lung disease.
