摘要： Objectives. All countries have been deeply affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, both economically and in situations that strain health systems, such as workforce and workload. Therefore, various measures should be taken to control the disease and prevent its spread. Since the disease onset, real-time PCR tests have been used as the gold standard for disease diagnosis. Owing to the rapid progress of the pandemic and the spread of the disease, validation, consistency, and optimization tests of some commercial kits have been conducted directly in the field. Therefore, it is important to compare the results of these kits and improve the existing ones. Methods. We compared five kits (Bioexen, Polgen, Coronex, Diagen, and Anatolia) donated to the TOBB Economics and Technology University Hospital PCR laboratory with the KrosGen kit to detect severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. A total of 244 samples were selected and analyzed using five different severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 PCR detection kits. Results. Positive and negative results from the six kits were compared using the working protocols of the kits, primers, and cycle threshold (Ct) values. Five of the six kits have reliable compatibility for Ct<30 but decreases for Ct >= 30. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the performance of these kits for reduced viral loads. Conclusions. Using a suitable kit with high compatibility for Ct >= 30 is important for detecting patients with a low viral load and helping prevent disease spread.

摘要： OBJECTIVE:We aimed to anlayse the relationship between anti-Xa activity below range and thomboembolic events. DESIGN:Single center prospective observational longitudinal cohort study (February-November 2021). SETTING:Patients admitted to the ICU of a University Hospital. PARTICIPANTS:Patients with severe COVID-19 pneumoniae. INTERVENTIONS:Enoxaparin was used for prophylactic and therapeutic anticoagulation. Enoxaparin dosing and dose adjustment were based on anti-Xa activity according to the hospital protocol. MAIN VARIABLES OF INTEREST:Target: thomboembolic events. PREDICTORS:demographics, pharmacotherapy, anti-Xa measurements, clinical data, and laboratory results. Logistic regression was used to identify independent risk factors for thomboembolic events. RESULTS:Data were available for 896 serum anti-Xa measurements from 228 subjects. Overall, 71.9% were male, with a median age of 62. Most patients needed invasive mechanical ventilation (87.7%) and mortality was 24.1%. A total of 28.9% new thomboembolic events were diagnosed. There were 27.1% anti-Xa measesurements below range. When multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed anti-Xa activity below range (RR, 4.2; p = 0.000), C-reactive protein (25 mg/L increase) (RR, 1.14; p = 0.005) and D-dimer (1000 ng/L increase) (RR, 1.06; p = 0.002) were the independent factors related to new thomboembolic events in patients with severe COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS:Anti-Xa activity below range, C-reactive protein and D-dimer were the independent factors related to thomboembolic events in patients with severe COVID-19. Purposely designed clinical trials should be carried out to confirm the benefit of an anti-Xa monitoring.

摘要： This study delves into the global evolution of 43 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators, spanning 7 major health themes across 185 countries to evaluate the potential progress loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both the cross-country and temporal variability of the dataset are employed to estimate an empirical model based on an extended version of the Preston curve, which links well-being to income levels and other key socioeconomic health determinants. The approach reveals significant global evolution trends operating in each SDG indicator assessed. We extrapolate the model yearly between 2020 and 2030 using the IMF's pre-COVID-19 economic growth projections to show how each country in the dataset are expected to evolve in these health topics throughout the decade, assuming no other external shocks. The results of this baseline scenario are contrasted with a post-COVID-19 scenario, where most of the pandemic costs were already known. The study reveals that economic growth losses are, on average, estimated as 42% and 28% for low- and lower middle-income countries, and of 15% and 7% in high- and upper middle-income countries, respectively, according to the IMF's projections. These disproportional figures are shown to exacerbate global health inequalities revealed by the curves. The expected progress loss in infectious diseases in low-income countries, for instance, is an average of 34%, against a mean of 6% in high-income countries. The theme of Infectious diseases is followed by injuries and violence; maternal and reproductive health; health systems coverage; and neonatal and infant health as those with worse performance. Low-income countries can expect an average progress loss of 16% across all health indicators assessed, whereas in high-income countries the estimated loss is as low as 3%. 摘要： Objectives The elderly population is categorized as a risk group for COVID-19 infection, and dementia is the primary cause of disability in elderly individuals and affects 70 % of the elderly population. In this study, we evaluated the blood and serum biomarkers of deceased dementia patients infected by COVID-19 compared to the survived dementia and non-dementia *** Laboratory biomarkers of 11 dementia patients infected by COVID-19 have been used for this study. The five patients' serum biochemistry and blood data were compared with the six patients who died because of COVID-19. Additionally, data from nine patients aged 85-96 infected with COVID-19 without dementia have been used to compare the difference between dementia and non-dementia *** D-dimer, C-reactive protein (CRP), glucose, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), troponin, procalcitonin, red cell distribution width (RDW), white blood cell (WBC), neutrophil (NEU) and %NEU levels significantly increased in the deceased dementia patients compared to the survived and non-dementia individuals. 摘要： The multilevel psychosocial stressors associated with COVID-19 pandemic set the stage to investigate risk factors and groups susceptible for non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). A national sample of 9,929 Brazilian adults aged 36.1 years on average participated in the study. Cross-sectional data were collected in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. NSSI levels were considered high in the total sample (13.2%) when compared to other studies in this context. The variables with the highest explanatory power in the regression models were age, anxiety, and depression. The main risk factors were being younger, living in the South or Southeast regions of Brazil, having lower educational attainment, and having higher rates of anxiety and depression. Respondents had the highest probability of NSSI in 2022. The sustained higher rates of NSSI in 2023 compared to the beginning of the pandemic underscores the need for continuous monitoring and the development of preventive actions for self-injurious behaviors.

摘要： Canadian homelessness is an ongoing issue, especially in the Nipissing District, Ontario, where agencies work to support those in need. However, these efforts were challenged with the sudden onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on the Cycle of Homelessness model, this study examines sociodemographic factors associated with homeless experiences during the pandemic. Using data from the 2021 (n = 207) Nipissing District homeless enumeration survey and employing bivariate and multivariate binary logistic analyses, this study examined sociodemographic factors associated with reasons of homelessness, barriers to housing loss and experiences of chronic and episodic homelessness during the pandemic. The results showed a significant sociodemographic variation in the experiences of the homeless population during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those over the age of 35 versus their younger counterparts were more likely (43.7%) found in emergency shelters. Multivariate findings indicated that females experienced housing/financial loss and interpersonal/family issues, directly causing homelessness, 2.2 and 2.5 times more than males, respectively. Welfare recipients were more likely to experience health-related reasons for housing loss (Odds Ratio (OR): 2.8), chronic homelessness (OR: 3.3), addiction (OR: 2.9), and mental health-related barriers to housing (OR: 4.1). Those aged 25-34, 25-44, and 45+ were 7.9, 4.9, and 5.1 times more likely to face chronic ***: Welfare recipients are more at-risk of health-related housing loss, addiction, and mental health barriers to housing, and chronic homelessness. This could be attributed to poor public planning and policies that put people in marginal economic and housing circumstances, especially during the pandemic. Therefore, policy reform is required to address the main barriers in eliminating homelessness.

摘要： Introduction Successful vaccine promotion communication strategies require knowing how eligible recipients will respond to the opportunity to get vaccinated. Two main classes of recipients are myopic rationalists, those who receive a dose of vaccine only if it maximizes their own instant benefit and if so, do it as soon as possible, and success-based learners, those who learn from others that they perceive to be most *** A recent study models these two decision-making types, and estimates the population proportion of myopic rationalists in each U.S. state. In this report, we fit a similar model to data on COVID-19 vaccine uptake across the Canadian provinces and *** We estimated that 64% of Canadians behaved as myopic rationalists in taking the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, compared to an estimated 47% in the United States. Among the provinces, the lowest proportion of myopic rationalists was 0.51 in Saskatchewan, while the highest was 0.74 in Prince Edward Island. The correlation analysis suggested a positive correlation between the proportion of myopic rationalists and the average age across the Canadian provinces (Pearson-r = 0.71).Discussion Canadian health management may benefit from these results in tailoring the vaccine promotion communication strategies.

摘要： Introduction The Latinx population has the second highest COVID-19 death rate among racial/ethnic groups in the United States and less than half of Latinx youth aged 5-17 years old completed their COVID-19 primary vaccination series as of September 2022. COVID-19 vaccine misinformation detrimentally impacts vaccination rates. In this study, we examined factors that predicted Latinx youth COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and vaccination *** A community-based sample of 290 Latinx parent and adolescent dyads from a Southwestern metropolitan area of the United States who were recruited to complete an online survey at baseline at T1 (August 2020 -March 2021) and one year later. We tested a longitudinal mediation model in which we examined individual and family factors that would predict youth COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and vaccination status over *** Youth's pandemic disbelief (i.e., the belief that the COVID-19 pandemic is a conspiracy or not real) predicted greater youth's COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, and in turn, a lower likelihood of youth's COVID-19 vaccination. Youth's pandemic disbelief also predicted greater parent's vaccination hesitancy which, in turn, predicted greater youth's vaccination hesitancy and a lower likelihood of COVID-19 vaccination. Parents' pandemic disbelief predicted their own COVID-19 hesitancy, but not youth *** Our study findings provide initial evidence that general pandemic disbelief was a significant driver of vaccine hesitancy and vaccination among Latinx families. 摘要： Background COVID-19 vaccines have proven effective against severe outcomes in many settings, yet vaccine effectiveness (VE) estimates remain lacking for Kosovo. We aimed to estimate VE against COVID-19 infections, hospitalisations, and deaths for one and two vaccine doses during the fourth pandemic wave in July-September 2021, the period when vaccination initially became widely *** We analysed routine surveillance data to define cases and vaccination status as partially (one dose) or completely (two doses) vaccinated. We used the screening method to calculate the proportion of cases with the outcomes vaccinated (PCV). The proportion of the population vaccinated (PPV) was based on numbers vaccinated and the Kosovo population estimate on 30/09/*** Between July-September 2021, 51,804 COVID-19 cases were reported in Kosovo with 9.3% of cases partially and 3.4% completely vaccinated. Estimated vaccine effectiveness for one dose was 93.1% (95%CI:92.9-93.2%) for infections, 90.3% (95%CI:88.8-91.7%) for hospitalisations, and 90.3% (95%CI:88.4-92.1%) for deaths.
