摘要： Objective: During public health emergencies such as the ongoing COVID-19 illness pandemic, it is essential to rapidly disseminate crisis messages which often contain embedded health directives. This study investigated which of three variants of the same messages (neutral tone, positive/compassionate tone, negative/fear-inducing tone) were most likely to motivate readers to engage in the health behavior proscribed in the message. Participants: Participants were 87 female and 41 male undergraduates at an urban university in the northeast U.S. Methods: A survey with three versions of eight different COVID messages containing health directives was administered. Results: Those who indicated stronger influence of positive/compassionate crisis messages (i.e., had higher Crisis Messages Survey scores) had higher adaptive health engagement scores, lower worry scores, and were likely to have had a past diagnosis of COVID-19. Moreover, a regression model including COVID-19 status and worry scores accounted for a significant proportion of variance in Crisis Messages Survey scores. Conclusions: Findings indicate that the use of neutral and compassionate language is optimal in motivating health behaviors embedded in university crisis messages.

摘要： Objective: To test the association between food insecurity and educational disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic and the role of anxiety or depression in mediating this association. Participants: Representative sample of 2,282 City University of New York students. Methods: Using an April 2020 online survey, we estimated adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR) for educational outcomes based on food insecurity status, adjusting for age, sex, race/ethnicity, and degree level with weighted Poisson regressions with robust standard errors. Results: Prevalence of decreased ability to do schoolwork was greater in those with moderate (aPR = 1.12, 95% CIs 1.02, 1.23) and high (aPR = 1.18, 95% CIs 1.08, 1.2) levels of food insecurity compared to food-secure students. Results were similar for dropping/withdrawing from classes and expecting delays or uncertainty around graduation. Anxiety and depression mediated the relationship between food insecurity and educational outcomes. Conclusion: Findings emphasize the urgency of expanded food assistance and mental health services for college students.

摘要： This work presents the application of an Encoder-Decoder convolutional neural network (ED-CNN) model to automatically segment COVID-19 computerised tomography (CT) data. By doing so we are producing an alternative model to current literature, which is easy to follow and reproduce, making it more accessible for real- world applications as little training would be required to use this. Our simple approach achieves results comparable to those of previously published studies, which use more complex deep-learning networks. We demonstrate a high-quality automated segmentation prediction of thoracic CT scans that correctly delineates the infected regions of the lungs. This segmentation automation can be used as a tool to speed up the contouring process, either to check manual contouring in place of a peer checking, when not possible or to give a rapid indication of infection to be referred for further treatment, thus saving time and resources. In contrast, manual contouring is a time-consuming process in which a professional would contour each patient one by one to be later checked by another professional. The proposed model uses approximately 49 k parameters while others average over 1,000 times more parameters. As our approach relies on a very compact model, shorter training times are observed, which make it possible to easily retrain the model using other data and potentially afford "personalised medicine" workflows. The model achieves similarity scores of Specificity (Sp) = 0.996 +/- 0.001, Accuracy (Acc) = 0.994 +/- 0.002 and Mean absolute error (MAE) = 0.0075 +/- 0.0005.

摘要： Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, pediatric cases typically exhibit milder symptoms and lower mortality rates. However, the delay in pediatric vaccination poses major risks for children. This multicenter study aimed to comprehensively analyze demographic characteristics, clinical features, disease severity, and risk factors for ICU admission in Iran. Materials and methods: This observational study enrolled children aged 0-21 years with confirmed or probable COVID-19 diagnoses, referred from selected hospitals across 17 counties in Mazandaran province, Iran, between February 19 and August 14, 2021. Patients were categorized into mild, moderate, severe, or critical cases based on clinical and radiographic criteria. Data were extracted from medical records and analyzed using statistical methods. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with ICU admission and disease severity. Results: Among the 1,031 children included in the study, 61 were diagnosed with MIS-C. The distribution of patients by severity was 156 mild, 671 moderate, and 204 severe/critical cases. Age distribution significantly differed across severity groups (P < 0.001), with 55.19% aged over 5 years and 54% being male. 11.44% had underlying diseases. Fever (71.97%) was the most common symptom, followed by cough (34.43%) and dyspnea (24.83%). Within the inpatient group, 19.77% required ICU admission, with 0.91% mortality, including 3 MIS-C cases. Children with underlying diseases, gastrointestinal symptoms, and obesity had 4.16, 3.10-, and 2.17-times higher likelihood of ICU admission, respectively. Conclusion: Our study emphasized the importance of recognizing pediatric COVID-19 severity and symptoms. While fever, cough, and dyspnea prevailed, mortality rates were relatively low. 摘要： Objective: The goal of this research was to uncover narratives around food access and consumption among Black women who attend HBCUs before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants: Black women, ages 18-25. Methods: Focus groups were used to understand how participants defined healthy foods as well as barriers and facilitators of consumption. During the pandemic follow-up focus groups uncovered how COVID-19 impacted their access and consumption patterns. Results: Findings revealed that HCBU women faced similar and distinct concerns around food access prior to and during the pandemic. Students were limited by price, budgets, proximity to healthy foods, kitchen access, and cooking tools. However, proximity or transportation both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged students to access healthy foods. Conclusion: For students who are already at a societal disadvantage and attend a university located in a food desert, access to nutritious foods can be an exacerbated plight.

摘要： Purpose Individuals with diabetes have an elevated risk of depression. The occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic may have further impacted the mental health of patients living with diabetes. This study aims to examine: 1) factors associated with the development of depression during the COVID-19 pandemic among individuals with diabetes without a history of depression; and 2) factors associated with the persistence or recurrence of depression during the pandemic among those with diabetes, and a pre-pandemic history of depression. Methods Secondary analysis of four waves of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging surveys. Canadian residents between the ages of 45-85 were recruited in 2012-2015 and subsequently completed three follow-up surveys. A total of 2,730 individuals with diabetes were included in this study. Results Among those without a prior history of depression, the incidence of new depression was 12.9% (95% CI 11.3-14.4%) during the pandemic. Among those with a history of depression, approximately half (48.5%; 95% CI 45.4-51.7%) were depressed during the pandemic. Factors associated with increased risk of incident and recurrent depression during the pandemic among older adults with diabetes include being female, greater educational attainment, higher income/savings, functional limitations, loneliness/social isolation, chronic pain, family conflict, and difficulties accessing health care. Conclusion Among Canadians living with diabetes, both the incidence and recurrence of depression increased during the pandemic. Even as the widespread pandemic response draws to a close, continued efforts to support the psychological well-being of this population are needed.

摘要： Introduction Identifying clinical factors that increase the risk of mortality in COVID-19 patients is crucial. This enables targeted screening, optimizing treatment, and prevention of severe complications, ultimately reducing death rates. This study aimed to develop prediction models for the death of patients (i.e., survival or death) during the COVID-19 pandemic in Shiraz, exploring the main influencing factors. Method We conducted a retrospective cohort study using hospital-based records of 1030 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19, who were hospitalized for treatment between March 21, 2021, and March 21, 2022, in Shiraz, Iran. Variables related to the final outcome were selected based on criteria and univariate logistic regression. Hierarchical multiple logistic regression and classification and regression tree (CART) models were utilized to explore the relationships between potential influencing factors and the final outcome. Additionally, methods were employed to identify the high-risk population for increased mortality rates during COVID-19. Finally, accuracy was evaluated the performance of the models, with the area under the receiver operator characteristic curve(AUC), sensitivity, and specificity metrics. Results In this study, 558 (54.2%) individuals infected with COVID-19 died. The final model showed that the type of medicine antiviral (OR: 11.10, p = 0.038) than reference (antiviral and corticosteroid), and discharge oxygen saturation(O2) (OR: 1.10, p < 0.001) had a positive association with the chance of survival, but other variables were not considered as predictive variables. Predictive models for the final outcome(death) achieved accuracies ranging from 81 to 87% for hierarchical multiple logistic regression and from 87 to 94% for the CART model. Therefore, the CART model performed better than the hirerical multiple logistic regression model. 摘要： Objective: To explore experiences, beliefs, and information-seeking behavior around COVID-19 among college students in Oklahoma. Participants: Fifteen college students participated during the pandemic period from April to July 2020. Methods: An exploratory, qualitative research approach method was used to discover students' experiences, beliefs, and information-seeking behaviors around COVID-19. Exploration of beliefs was guided by the Health Belief Model. Results: Students engaged in COVID-19 information-seeking behaviors predominantly through Internet sites, broadcast news, health professionals, and governmental sources. Students experienced emotional burden as a result of COVID-19 misinformation in these sources. While most students perceived a low chance of acquiring the virus due to their lack of underlying medical conditions, they were still concerned about the consequences of becoming infected. Students noted the difficulty of physical distancing while on campus. Conclusions: Colleges/universities should maximize the dissemination of timely, valid health information for the safety of their students and the broader community.

摘要： Objective: Campus recreational sport activities impact college student health and well-being in a variety of domains. This multi-institutional study examined the participation of students in campus recreation during the pandemic and explored the relationship between student participation and their demographic markers, COVID-19 experience, and perceptions of risk, health and safety. Methods: Results from a survey of 1,815 American college students indicated the presence of statistical differences in sport participation based on Gender, Race, State, Personal COVID-19 Experience, Campus Safety Efforts, and Risk Perception Score within various areas of analysis. Results: The impact and meaning of these cross-sectional results are discussed with reference to the ongoing pandemic and student health. Recommendations are presented within the context of this vital programming area both during and beyond the current crisis. Conclusion: These results are especially important given the health benefits associated with participation in recreational sport as tools to mitigate against the unprecedented consequences of the pandemic.

摘要： COVID-19 disease is associated with a hyperinflammatory, pro-thrombotic state and a high mortality. Our primary objective was to assess the change in inflammatory and thrombotic markers associated with PEX, and secondary objectives were to assess the effects of PEX on progression of respiratory failure and incidence of acute thrombotic events. We conducted a prospective, phase II, non-blinded randomised control trial of plasma exchange compared to standard of care in critically ill adults with severe COVID-19 associated respiratory failure, requiring supplemental oxygen or ventilatory support and elevated thrombo-inflammatory markers (LDH, CRP, ferritin, and D-Dimer). Patients randomised to receive PEX were treated with a daily single volume plasma exchange for a minimum of five days. Twenty-two patients were randomised of who 11 received PEX. Demographic and clinical characteristics were similar between groups at presentation. PEX was associated with a significant reduction in pro-thrombotic markers FVIII, VWF and VWF Ag: ADAMTS 13 ratio (p < 0.001). There were no differences in the reduction of inflammatory markers, severity of respiratory failure (p = 0.7), thrombotic events (p = 0.67), or mortality (p > 0.99) at 28 days. PEX successfully reduced pro-thrombotic markers, although was not associated with reduction in inflammatory markers, respiratory failure, or thrombotic events.
